-701 Restore error

There is a problem with the destination or source. You will find below a list of possible causes for your problem with possible solutions.

Cause Source

  • Make sure you can open the image backup without errors.
  • Run the image check to make sure the contents are readable.
  • Check the media on which the image backup files are stored for file system errors and the SMART values of the hard drives/SSDs for errors.
  • If USB disks are used, try other USB ports, other USB cables to rule out a problem with the USB controller/cable.
  • If you are accessing your image backup files over the network, check that there are no network errors reported on the network storage, the network switch should also be checked for problems.

Cause Destination

  • Check the media you want to restore to. Check the SMART values of the hard disks/SSDs for errors, for RAID controllers use the manufacturer's diagnostic tools.
  • If the target disk itself is error-free, try other SATA/SAS/M.2 ports to rule out errors at the connection. For hard drives, use other SATA/SAS cables to rule out errors.
  • In rare cases, faulty RAM can lead to bit corruption.

Limited Workaround / Options

  • If the image backup file itself is readable, but the content has unreadable sectors that were already present in the original source, then you can activate the option "Ignore checksum error during restoring" when restoring.
  • Optionally, you can open the image backup with write access and then run a CHKDSK to correct the file system. This process can take a long time and the differential image backup file that stores all the changes can theoretically be the same size as the original backup. When the process is complete, you can then use the differential image backup file to restore.

Note: Both options do not mean that a complete recovery will be successful, as depending on the degree of damage already present, the necessary data may be unrecoverable.
