Activation license fail

You receive messages that the license is not valid/expired, or activation is not possible. Below is a list of possible root causes of your problem with workarounds.

License invalid / expired

After a Windows Inplace Upgrade or Build Upgrade, your license is invalid or expired. To solve the problem, uninstall ActiveImage Protector (keep your settings/tasks/log files) and reinstall ActiveImage Protector.

Automatic activation is not performed

Automatic activation is not carried out. In this case, first navigate to the path "C:\Program Files (x86)\NetJapan\ActiveImage Protector\" (depending on the edition, the path may differ slightly at the end and instead of "NetJapan" is used with newer versions "Actiphy") . After that, open the "aip.ini" file and go to the line with the [Install] section. If the line AutoActivate=1 is missing in this section or the value 0 instead of 1, add this line to the existing values or correct and save the value (possibly necessary as an administrator because of the NTFS permissions).

Backup tasks in "disabled" status

Your backup tasks in ActiveImage Protector HyperAgent are set to "Disabled" and can no longer be enabled. Make sure you are not using the additional included agent-based guest license on another host. By default, the ActiveImage Protector HyperAgent Basic license is always allowed for one hypervisor host, if you want to cover more than one hypervisor host, you need one license per hypervisor host. You can book as many hypervisor hosts as you need on an ActiveImage Protector HyperAgent Basic license.

Virtual Environment Licenses

For virtual environment licenses, ensure that the hypervisor host is also correctly assigned when entered. If you are not using ActiveVisor for administration and want to correct incorrectly assigned hypervisor host entries from the agent-based installations, proceed as follows:

  • Log on to the affected virtual guest and navigate to the ActiveImage Protector (default) installation directory: C:\Program Files (x86)\NetJapan\ActiveImage Protector\.
  • From there, start the AipControl.exe application as an administrator and enter the following command to change the hypervisor host: setvmhostname hostname (replace the value "hostname" with the desired hypervisor hostname).
  • The change is applied immediately.

More checkpoints

  • Make sure the date/time zone/time and region settings on the Windows system are correct. The automatic summer and winter time changeover must be activated.
  • If you are using an Outright, MSP or Subscription license, make sure you can reach the license server. As a ping test: activations.netjapan.com alternatively the IP address 52.196.57.178. First check your internet connection or firewall. If you use a proxy server, make sure that the proxy settings in the software are also set correctly. Alternatively, you can use ActiveVisor as a proxy license server.
  • If you are using ActiveVisor, make sure you are using at least version 5.0.8.943, older ActiveVisor versions are not compatible with the current ActiveImage Protector software.
